metatagger save event

is there anyway to tie a validation script to the "save" event from the metatagger gui?

Just throwing this back to the top of the list to see if anyone knows have to tie a script/regex to this event. I can do lots of stuff post-processing in workflow, but am curious to know if I can pull off some simple run-time validation when a user clicks "Save" on the metatagger GUI.
