Report Parameters assistance
ernieisley
I am relatively new at designing reports but I heard you guys are pretty good at helping us novices. I am looking to create a parameter which can be placed at the header and footer of a report. I would also like for the parameter to display a four line "block" of text on the report. What type of parameter and display type should I choose.
For example,
If I create a drop-down list of fruits and the user chooses apple. The following would display on the report
apple
apple
apple
apple
apple
apple
Thanks a lot guys

Hi ernieisley,
You'd just use a dropdown list parameter. Then in your masterpage header, you should be able to add a dynamic text box or data element to the header and footer and call the parameter value there from your data explorer. Then, in the report, you can create a grid to structure your report how you'd like it to be spaced. Then either use dynamic text boxes or data elements to display the report parmeter value there. Let me know if you have questions.

Hello Mr. Williams,
Thank you for your reply. I was able to create a parameter that displays in both the header and footer. I am unsure of how to use the dynamic text box to display the parameters that are mutually exclusive to the header and footer.
Thanks again.

ernieisley,
What version of BIRT are you using? I'll make an example of what it looks to me like you're talking about.

We are currently using Birt 2.1.2. That would help us out a lot. Thanks again for you assistance in this matter.
