Automatic prompting for file downloads
dirslashw
Hi guys,
We have a birt report setup where it would prompt the user to download the excel report after its generated. The problem is after the pop-up it shows a blank page. The solution seems is to Enable Automatic prompting for file downloads. But according to Microsoft this is not the recommended solution since it lax the security for the user on the browser:
"Does your Web site launch automatic download prompts?
A file download prompt will be suppressed by the Information Bar if a Web site attempts to navigate to a resource that would have resulted in a file download dialog box being displayed when the user did not initiate the navigation with a mouse click or key press.
To ensure downloads are not suppressed, you can make all downloads the result of a direct user action." - Microsoft
With that being said, has anyone ran into this problem or have any recommendation on how we should approach this? Allowing users to download the excel file after the report is generated and without having to enable the automatic download?
Thanks,
Manny

Hi Manny, how are you prompting the user to download the Excel file? Are you using the BIRT Viewer URL's?
I'm moving this thread to the BIRT Engine forum to see if others there have an answer too.
