Edit Database
danhof
Hi,
I'm using BIRT for charting and reporting with eclipse and JSP's and a tomcat 6. Now i'm looking for a database connection to edit and write data in the connected database. Is there a posibility to do that with birt?
Or someone has an other idea?
Greetings

Hi danhof,
Generally, BIRT is used to read and display data, not write or update data, however, there are several ways to write data to a database within the context of a BIRT report.
If you are trying to write to the database during BIRT report generation or rendering time, then there are several events within BIRT that can run Java or JavaScript code. So, you can use those events to establish your own JDBC connection, and write to the database.
If you are trying to write to the database after the report has been rendered and is visible to the user, maybe write something back to the database that the user typed in on the report, then you can use another approach. A BIRT report can contain HTML code, so you can use an HTML form inside a BIRT Text Control. That HTML form can send data to a waiting Java Servlet that can take the data and write it to a database.
Since both of these options require you to be in the BIRT Designer, I'm going to move this thread to the Designing BIRT Reports forum.

Not really helpful with out pointing towards examples of the suggestions.
