OD Runs slow..how can I tell..

if it is the network or my configuration with OD.
OD 5.5.1

Is the "Average Data Rate" Column in OD telling me how fast my network is?

is pretty slow

Is there something I could run when doing the deployment to see if the my network connection is sl,w?

A simple check would be to try to ftp a big file and see what data rate you get. This is just to get an idea of the network performance. Your rate you get with ftp is usually much faster than OD. Also, it depends on what type of deployment you are running. If you are doing directory comparison over the network, it would be much slower. Check ghoti's recent post on this.

You can also run commands like traceroute to find how many hops are between your TS and the target.

The rate shown in the GUI is, I believe, somewhat off as I believe it includes overhead (setup, comparisons, cleanup, etc.) within the calculations for data transfer rate (a bug was filed on this, and I *think* fixed in 5.6) - also, even though you cannot use FTP right now, there were cases in 5.5.1 where FTP was faster, but OpenDeploy 5.6 is faster than 5.5.1 and in some cases faster than FTP (remember, OpenDeploy is doing more than just file transfer).

Also - if the files being transferred are generally large (multi-megabytes or larger as opposed to killobytes or smaller) - OpenDeploy 5.6's ability to do compression may also speed up the deployment process.

And of course there's a question of bandwidth between your Base and Receiver - there may only be one hop - but hops can be big - and depending on the size of the pipe and the amount of other traffic going through it - your performance will vary.

For what little it's worth - at one point when working with 5.5.1 at Interwoven's HQ - I saw a transfer rate of over a Gig/sec - so there's nothing inherrent about OpenDeploy that makes it perform slowly - the devil is in the details ...

Here's what I have and if you could give me some hints on it I would appreciate it....

Referencing the config I attached I am ODing from the root folder only a small amount of files (maybe 8 file in 3 folders for about 100k total) but with comparisons turned on and transactioning turned on
(Stated in posting http://devnet.interwoven.com/forums/cgi-bin/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=PRODUCTS_OPENDEPLOY&Number=16061&page=1&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&part=1#Post16254) this might have an effect on the speed.

The amount of files that reside in the root (but are not being deployed) are 4,628 and 477 folders = 169Megs

At this point I'm leaning more towards bandwidth but I wish I just could be sure before heading off to the network guys.
