Configuring a new DataSource

I am a newbee and have Birt Report Professional installed on my windows box and have been following the getting started tutorial. I want to create a new DataSource connected to my Oracle database. However when I click on the "Data" Menu Item, I see that it is greyed out and unselectable. What is the problem here?

What do you mean by "data" menu item?

The "Data" tab at the top of the tool.

I did manage to solve the problem by choosing:
New->Other->connection Profiles-> Connection Profile and then setting up a new data source. Once I did this, then the "Data"-> "New Data Source" became active.
