bar chart/markerline woes
jsherriff
Looking for suggestions on how to handle a couple of related problems. When my bar charts have more than N x-axis values (not sure what N is, somewhere between 30 and 240), the bar rendering becomes erratic (see attached). I've tried the default unit spacing and 1 with no material difference.
The other problem, is that my marker lines are being rendered behind the bars, which is contrary to the FAQ which says "Marker lines are rendered in front of the series graphic elements." I'm not sure that the marker lines being obscured isn't caused by the erratic bar widths.
This is using 2.3.1.

Hi Joel,
It's hard to tell from the small image whether the marker lines are in front of or behind the bars. I've not seen erratic behavior like that before. I'll try to reproduce it using the sample database. If I'm not able to, I'll let you know so you can see if you can.

Joel,
In 2.3.1, I built a report with the sample database that contained a bar chart and a marker line. The bars always seemed to be close to the same width and had the same spacing....nothing like your image. Maybe this is because of the line chart series' that you have with your bar chart. Have you tried the bar chart without the other lines? Do you get the same issue then?
I do however, get the marker line behind the bars, not in front

Michael, thanks for the reply. Here's a report with a scripted data source that demonstrates the problem for me. And a full-size image. I turned off the bar outlines so each bar would be more distinct.

Michael, after looking at the issue (the ugly bars, that is), it just seems like too many bars crammed into too little space. Perhaps it could be better about degrading in this case, but I think the best solution is to show every other or every third, etc, depending on the number of bars. Thanks.

Joel,
Let me know if you still have issues when you filter out some bars. I'll dive back in if you do.
Good luck!
