A Qn: Does Report Engine deploy a .rptdesign into a webpage?

Hi,

I am just curious about the functionality of Birt Report Engine.
As far as I know, it is able to generate a .rptdesign into different report formats such as .html, .csv etc. But does it helps to launch a .rptdesign just like Report Viewer?? Or it doens't?

Please kindly help to clear my doubts.

The engine is capable of doing what the viewer does if you add the code. By default the viewer (/framest servlet mapping) uses the engine to take the rptdesign and produces a rptdocument (binary file) that is then used to render to different outputs. The advantage to doing this is that you only have to run the report once and you can render to multiple output formats without re-hitting your datasources.
