Populate e-mail body with Report Data?

Hi,
I am converting our Maximo 5.2 reports done in Actuate 7 to birt 2.3.2 reports. We are converting one Actuate report that we schedule and e-mail out to VIP users that populates report data in the email body so they can get a brief synopsis on their blackberries. We do this in Actuate by altering the comments variable during the On Read method of an actuate dataset.
I have already tried to do an update statement on reportsched.emailcomments using MyTxn but it appears the record gets deleted before .rptdesign file can update it.
Any ideas?
