Conditional Alignment

Given a report parameter, call it colAlign, with possible values: left, center, right

A) Is there a simple way to align all data values and column headings in a report as the value given in colAlign?

Will this work even if table columns, table cells, labels, data elements, etc. already have an alignment value?

C) Exclude certain columns from this behavior? (I ask about this one because I'm hoping for a general solution to A & B that is easy to implement.)

Hi Robert,

If you had a parameter with those values you could do something like the following in each report element's onCreate script:

this.getStyle().textAlign = params["colAlign"];

This should work regardless of the alignment already being set.

You should be able to do each individual column with something like:

this.getColumn(1).getStyle().textAlign = "right";
this.getColumn(2).getStyle().textAlign = params["colAlign"];

But, it doesn't seem to be changing anything regardless of having the alignment preset or not. I'm doing this in the latest version, 2.5.2.

Thank you for your assistance. I was hoping for a more general solution that wouldn't require event handlers for each label and data element, but it doesn't appear that there is one.

For anyone else stumbling across this make sure you set the textAlign property to one of: "Left", "Center", or "Right". Lower-case strings will not work.

On my form that triggers reports, I have option buttons labeled:
Original
Left
Center
Right

This places the appropriate value in the colAlign report parameter.

Thus my event handlers look like:

if( params["colAlign"].value != "Original" ) {
this.getStyle().textAlign = params["colAlign"].value;
}

This allows the user to go with my original report alignment should they choose.

What version of BIRT are you using? "right" worked for me in 2.5.2.
