Performance with Webservice Datasets
richardc
Hi,
I am using BIRT 2.3.2.2.
We are using xsl templates to transform a complex webservice to something flatter that the BIRT webservice datasets can handle.
A typical report consists of 5 tables which are each bound to a different webservice dataset.
In terms of minimising calls to the webservice, can you let me know which one of the following designs would be best:
Design 1)
Using 5 xsl templates: Create 5 webservice datasources and 5 webservice datasets in BIRT - each dataset would have it's own datasource and each would have different row mapping and column mapping. Each table in the report would then be bound to it's own dataset. (Each table uses the same id for the dataset parameter binding.)
Design 2)
Using only one combined xsl template: Create only one webservice datasource and 5 webservice datasets in BIRT - each dataset would be using the same datasource but each would have different row mapping and column mapping. Each table in the report would then be bound to it's own dataset. (Each table uses the same id for the dataset parameter binding.)
Do both 1) and 2) have the same number of calls to the webservice?
Is there any caching occuring with option 2?
Cheers,
Richard
