BIRT Engine and HTTP get

We currently have an application that is deployed using the birt engine 2.1. In that version you could only use an HTTP get to deploy a report. We are moving (finally) to 2.3. Is that restriction still in place or can HTTP post be used instead? I saw a brief mention that this had been changed, but I have yet to find any examples or even a bug/enhancement. Even the "new" version of "Integrating and Extending BIRT, Second Edition" uses 2.1 as an example of how to deploy birt reports in an application.

If it has been changed, could you point me in the direction of an updated example, please?
