Accessing masterpage variables in layout.
User_PN
Hi All,
Is there any way to access masterpage variables in the layout, like pageNumber?
My actual requirement is to get groupwise page number and hide some details on the first page of each group. I could generate groupwise pagenumbers using page group variable and able to display it in masterpage, but unable to access the same in the layout where i really need it.

Hi User_PN,
Can you explain this a little further? I'm not sure I'm quite understanding.
You want to be able to access the pageNumber variable to be able to hide stuff in the first page of each group in your report layout? Is this correct?

Hi mwilliams,
Not exactly, we are using birt 2.5, which doesnt support groupwise page number. Hence I used one pageVariable to arrive at group level pagenumber. The pageGroupVariable is giving proper value only in master page, when the same is accessed in layout, it is giving wrong value.
My requirement is,
I have an outer group which has many inner groups. When ever the outer group value changes, the page header of first page should hide some values, and from second page onwards it should display the same.
eg. The header information shows shomething like below (each line shows pagewise header within the group, where the outer group is race number.)
Race 1 ABC track - page 1
Race 1 ABC track **** - page 2
Race 1 ABC track **** - page 3
Race 2 XYZ track - page 1
Race 2 XYZ track yyy - page 2
Race 2 XYZ track yyy - page 3
Race 2 XYZ track yyy - page 4
Race 3 DEF track - page 1
Race 3 DEF track zzz - page 2
Thanks

User_PN,
If you're talking about hiding/unhiding info in a group header, I don't think this is possible the way headers currently work in BIRT. They are created once and then just rerendered, so you cannot update information in a header that is repeated to the next page because of the group continuing.

Any alternative ideas?

User_PN,
You could possibly do an interval type group inside your group that would only show enough rows to fit on a page. Then the header for the interval group would be new each time, so you would be able to use it to display different info on the first page than the rest of the groups pages.
