Grouping Failure - what would cause it?
mkane4
Hello everyone,
New to BIRT, but had an introductory level training session with MicroFocus trainer as BIRT is the recommended report tool of their Silk Central product we are using.
Created SQL that provided the results data desired, including the order and grouping desired. Then created a report in BIRT from a "grouped" template with a single control break and included a couple data fields in the grouped data section.
The report starts out displaying the grouped data as expected on the first page, then writes the detail lines over multiple pages without the group headings on page break as expected. The problem is that the grouped key is numeric and BIRT only seems to sort it on only the 1st 4 digits so that 11111 comes before 9999 on the report (again, the data was already sorted, so I'm going to assume BIRT is doing an internal sort on the data its reading). Then later in the report, BIRT starts repeating the group data on each new page all of a sudden and some detail lines are only partially displayed (1/2 the vertical display is chopped off the report). Anyone know what might be the problem to cause these symptoms?

In your data set, have you set the grouped field to a numeric data type? It looks like it is doing a sort based on the literal String value of a numeric.
