Search based on report parameters

Hello,

I have designed a report with "first name" as a report parameter.

I would like to provide search based on the report parameter (first name) i.e
when a user enters value for the first name ...all the results matching to the name are displayed...now the user selects a specify name for which the report is generated ....

Can anyone guide me on how to implement this .

Hi snehajo,

Do you have a field for firstName and another for lastName? If so, you could use a cascading parameter to actually allow them to select a first name from a dropdown and then that could narrow the next box to last name that the user will pick from. This would be done by creating a query that pulls in just the first and last name fields, creating a new cascading parameter with the two levels described above, and then using the selected values in another query to grab the selected person's info.

Sneha,

You would actually create both within a cascading parameter. If you right click on parameters in your data explorer and select new cascading parameter rather than just new parameter, that should get you started!
