I'm a newbie.
Can a BIRT report be more than a report - can it update data? In other words can the report's end user edit the data in the SQL table that is being reported?

You cannot edit the results sets of a birt report. What are you trying to do? maybe there is a better way to do it.

There is nothing out-of-the-box in BIRT that will let a user write back data to a database from a report. However, this is possible with custom code.

The technique used in this framework, mainly using a Java servlet to receive data from a report and post it to a database, can be applied to any type of situations.
