I'm pretty new to BIRT and recently ran across an issue. I'm trying to create a report similar to this one.

I have about 95% of it finished. I'm using a Scripted DataSource and working with a Java POJO object. 
 
The Java Object has the following fields

Everything works great except I have no idea how to work with the List object within BIRT? How do I iterate through my list to get it printout the various list objects at the group footer location since there can be several? 
 
Do I just put one reportItem in the group Footer like one cash item and will BIRT list out various cash payments if they exist within the list? 
 
Any help into this issue is greatly appreciated. 
 
I'm using BIRT 2.2

No not the List element from Palette. 
 
I'm basically trying to figure out how to take the 
private List<PaymentMethod> paymentMethodList = new ArrayList<PaymentMethod>(); 
 
and convert it over to the JavaScript. So I can list out the payment methods 
at the bottom of the detail row footer section like in the pic.

You could step through your arrayList and make it into a string that would allow you to display all of the info. You could also make it into an HTML formatted string that you could use a text box to display the list as an html list.

I thought about the string idea last night but the problem is I have to total the info at the end. I have to total how much was paid with checks, cards, and cash.

You should still be able to do this in script using variables and parsing strings into integers/floats where needed to keep track of a value. Then at the end of your script, combine it all together as necessary.

As we discussed on Yahoo IM earlier, the script to grab the values of the list for cash is something like:

Obviously you had to change it a little to work with your 3 payment types, etc. If you could post your final code in here for anyone else with the same issue that comes across this thread, that'd be great. 
 
As for listing the items in the group footer, I suggested creating an html list out of the "credit" values. Here is a simple example of how to do so. There is code in the report's initialize script, in the group header row's onCreate script, and in the paymentamount data item's onCreate script. Hopefully it'll get you pointed in the right direction. Let me know if you have any questions. 
 
The design was made in 2.2.2. You'll have to remove the .txt extension from the csv file and change the save location of the csv in the dataSource to run the report.

Hi all,

I have a similar problem and think is very simple but still haven't found the right code do do that.
I have to build a list from the result of a query that give me from one to n data of a single column.
I initialize the variable that store the list in the initialize part of the report and then in the onFetch of the query I try to do:
if (m == "") {
m = row["NAME"];
} else {
m = m + ", " + row["NAME"];
}
reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("gMT", m);
to collect the datas since this function is called for every row fetched. What I get is only the first element and nothing else. Any help appreciated.

This probably belongs in a new thread, but your problem could be the initialization of "m". You need to get m before entering the check to update it: 
 
m = reportContext.getPersistentGlobalVariable("gMT"); 
 
if (m == "") { 
m = row["NAME"];
} 
 
else { 
m = m + ", " + row["NAME"];
} 
 
reportContext.setPersistentGlobalVariable("gMT", m);

sorry if I post in the wrong place and thank you for the answer.

I tried your solution but the result is the same and for me is a confirm because the variable m is already a global variable - ok, it isn't persistent -, it is defined in the initialize function of the report as m = new String(); so for me it remain a mystery.

If it can help the version of BIRT I use is: BIRT Designer Version 2.3.1.v20080911

The data I collect in the string m is the last element and not the first as I said in the previous post.

Hi again after long time

I found the problem isn't in persistence of data, that's work fine: the function onFetch() of the data sets retrieve only the first element of the data (i.e. my query should get 3 row) and my code process also only the first element. How can I process all element by the onFetch function ? There is an iteration to do that and with which counter, indexes ? 
Here is the code in the onFetch function (by me supposed to be called for each row):

Solution: I found the solution and my mistake was in the choose of the object to call the query, it was a text object but for multiple line fetch a table is needed. M.
