Optional Email Task

I am creating a custom workflow and one of the requirements is to provide an optional email task. The workflow user may either choose to send an email before proceeding to next task or go directly go next task in the workflow. Is it possible to design the workflow such that the user is prompted for the email address only if he decides to send the email. If so, could someone please offer some suggestions on how it can be done. Thanks in advance.

If the user chooses to send the email, execute a cgitask that prompts for the email address and the cgitask can also send the email.

Or have two transitions from your task. One to an email task/external task and another to the subsequent task directly.

He first wanted to prompt for an email address if they chose to send an email, so he'd need a cgitask for that.

Yes, correct. You will need a CGI if you want to prompt the user for email address.

Having two transistions will just avoid the CGI pop-up if the user does'nt want to send an email. Just depends what exactly he wants.
