The problem about table group and export report
Developer1
I inserted a table group into a table,and fixed the cell's "drop" property to all,then export the report as Excel file,there's a blank line in the Excel file,
I want the birt can drop the blank line automatically,How to solve it? Thank you!
Sorry ,my English is poor!

Hi Developer1,
I'm not quite 100% sure what the issue is. Can you recreate it with the sample database and post your report in here? Also, what version of BIRT are you using?
Bri
We're facing the exact same issue.
using the DROP property doesn't remove the other cells in the same row - it just colspans the cells that the DROP=ALL or DROP=DETAILS property is set to. As a result, rogue cells are appearing above the details line when exporting to EXCEL. In HTML these tables APPEAR fine, but looking at the source it's evident that the rogue cells exist there too. They just don't display because of other colspans and cell data that sort of push them out of sight.
Here's an example of the bad code it's rendering:
<table class="style_1" style="border-collapse: collapse; empty-cells: show; width: 100%;" id="__bookmark_3">
<col></col>
<col></col>
<col></col>
<tr valign="top">
<th class="style_2">
<div id="AUTOGENBOOKMARK_3">Section</div>
</th>
<th class="style_2">
<div id="AUTOGENBOOKMARK_4">Category</div>
</th>
<th class="style_2">
<div>Budget</div>
</th>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle" id="__TOC_2">
<td class="style_6" rowspan="8">
<div class="style_7">GROUP 1 TITLE 1</div>
</td>
<td class="style_8"></td>
<td class="style_9"></td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle" id="__TOC_2_0">
<td class="style_11" rowspan="3">
<div>GROUP 2 TITLE 1</div>
</td>
<td class="style_12"></td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$1,000.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$1,010.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle" id="__TOC_2_0">
<td class="style_11" rowspan="3">
<div>GROUP 2 TITLE 2</div>
</td>
<td class="style_12"></td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$2,009.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$2,029.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
And here's what I would expect for it to render:
<table class="style_1" style="border-collapse: collapse; empty-cells: show; width: 100%;" id="__bookmark_3">
<col></col>
<col></col>
<col></col>
<tr valign="top">
<th class="style_2">
<div id="AUTOGENBOOKMARK_3">Section</div>
</th>
<th class="style_2">
<div id="AUTOGENBOOKMARK_4">Category</div>
</th>
<th class="style_2">
<div>Budget</div>
</th>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle" id="__TOC_2">
<td class="style_6" rowspan="4">
<div class="style_7">GROUP 1 TITLE 1</div>
</td>
<td class="style_11" rowspan="2">
<div>GROUP 2 TITLE 1</div>
</td>
<td class="style_11">
<div>$1,000.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$1,010.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle" id="__TOC_2_0">
<td class="style_11" rowspan="2">
<div>GROUP 2 TITLE 2</div>
</td>
<td class="style_11">
<div>$2,009.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
<tr valign="middle">
<td class="style_11">
<div>$2,029.00</div>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
You can see this best when you load them into EXCEL then show all borders.

Run the attached report design file from the BIRT Report Designer into an Excel Spreadsheet (Run>View Report>As XLS) and note the blank spaces peppered throughout the report. Now run the same report as HTML (or just view it) and notice the blank spaces are not there. Looks fine in HTML, but is adding unwanted cells to the Excel output.
