Adding commonly used functions to a library

The page "New and Notable Features within BIRT 2.0" (<a class='bbc_url' href='http://www.eclipse.org/birt/phoenix/project/notable2.0.php#jump_7'>New and Notable Features within BIRT 2.0</a>) states under the heading "Libraries": 
 
"BIRT 2.0 introduces the concept of libraries to BIRT. With this feature, commonly used functions and report items can be encapsulated within a library." 
 
I've successfully added data sources, data sets, parameters and report elements to a report libarary and used them in a report, but I can't see where to add functions to a library so that they are callable from a report. 
 
Can anyone help - I'm using BIRT 2.3.2.

Hi BillT,

You can create a function in a text control that you can call in your report. You would be able to save this in a library.

Thanks for your prompt response. Your suggestion works but not in a very user-friendly way.

If I add a dynamic text element to my library and then add it to my report layout, the editor window pops up with the contents. If I don't delete the contents, I effectively get a copy of the text, so that changes to the library version are not inherited by my report.

Even more unhelpful, if I subsequently open the text element, it silently becomes a copy of the library text, so I don't inherit changes to the librray version.

Is this how it's meant to be?

I believe the way it's done is to use a regular text element and use script tags within the text box.
