Passing parameters
abhipro
Hi,
I am working on a report in which I need to pass the parameters through the query in the dataset.
The parameter is the date in yyyy-mm-dd format.
When I use a ? in place of the value, I get an error while previewing.
In MySql, the date needs to be passed within quotes, but using '?' as the parameter value in the BIRT query returns nothing.
any help would be highly appreciated.
Regards,
Abhi

You can do this in 2 steps.
1) In BIRT prespective, on the left side select the data explorer tab. Right click on "Report Parameters" and create a new report parameter.
2) right click on the dataset you created, and click Edit.
a) Click on "Parameters" option available on the left. Click on the New button. Name the parameter, give the data type and select 'input' for direction. In Link to the report parameter drop down , select the parameter you created in step 1. Click Ok button. This is your first parameter and its number will be #1.
b) Click on "Query". In the Query put a Question Mark "?" where you want the parameter value during runtime.
c) Click Ok. It takes a few seconds to save.
If you want a second parameter follow the same steps and you get parameter #2, and the second ? that comes in the query order will get this #2 parameter value.
Hope this helps!!
