date data type

Can Any one help me with this :

In the datacapture.cfg, i have a field to capture birthdate, where i am specifying the database type as date.but in the sql database the table which is created has type varchar 255.
how to i get rid of this, bec, i further need to perform operation from the sql database, which require it to be date tye.
