Speed of iwupdate

TS552, Solaris 8
Hi all,
Another interesting question to ponder. When you use the Teamsite new branch function it bases the branch on an edition in the parent and is almost instantaneous. If you create an empty branch then do an iwupdate it can take ages (100 seconds). Anyone know how to speed up an iwupdate like operation so that it is as fast as the new branch based on an edition?
What we have is a release branch (live web files) and parallel work banches, i.e. not children of the release branch. The work branches are created and deleted at will so we wanted them separate from the stable release and test branches.
If anyone has any ideas I'd be very happy to hear them.
Regards
John

Your results are not surprising. TeamSite handles the commands differently. Even though you are updating an empty workarea on new branch, TS does a comparison to verify that new file is needed. We have encountered a similar issue with updating an empty workarea, depending on the number of files could take even longer (1 hour or more in our case but this was 30,000 files per workarea in TS 501). Updating did take less time when we increased the cache size parameter, but then if you are doing multiple updates it eventually catches up with the delay.

If you have questions about performance, please be sure to include the full version and operating system that you are running. Memory can also play a fairly large role.
We have made significant tuning changes in 552 as compared to 501, for example. If you post more specifics, your peers, and folks at IWOV can help out.
