Hi Rizwan,<br />
<br />
I cant tell you the specific differences as I am not that familiar with the report suite in MXES6, however I suspect that IBM chose BIRT because it is open source, extremely flexible, powerful and MUCH easier to use than Actuate's previous product. <br />
<br />
If you would like more information on BIRT then take a look at <a class='bbc_url' href='

The only essential difference between the report sets delivered with Maximo 6 and 7 is the inclusion of reports for the new features in Maximo 7. Otherwise, you are correct, they are pretty much the same reports.
As for the move from Actuate to BIRT, I respectfully disagree that BIRT is better. Actuate is a very powerful reporting platform that very few people have taken the time to learn. The tool has a very rich library which provides a fixed and repeatable solution methodology, that is common among developers and support personnel.
I think the lack of a full featured, standard solution library in BIRT could lead to mass confusion as developers come up with their own class libraries to fill the holes in BIRT. It's easy to envision every non-trivial report referencing it's own set of custom class files or at least a new version of the same set of custom classes. And if you've ever called Maximo support (IBM or MRO) and let slip that you have "customized code", you know how quick you hear the line go dead.
I am a Actuate/BIRT developer for IBM and I was an Actuate developer for MRO, I am concerned that BIRT is going to lead to a nightmare of confusion if we aren't careful.
Sorry, I suppose that was a little more than you were asking for, huh?
