Controlling page breaks for a multi line report
msoucy
I have a report that has multiple detail lines. I want to be able to control the page break so that it only happens after the last detail line. Is this possible? If so, can someone please explain how to do this? I am using BIRT designer version 2.3.2.r232_v20081010.

Hi msoucy,
Do your detail lines have a uniform height so that you know how many "groups" of detail lines can fit on a page before you need to page break?
msoucy
Yes, my detail lines are all the same height. My report has 5 detail lines per record, and it looks like the report will fit only 34 lines per report. Knowing this, does this help my cause? The report is sorted in a way so that when the 1st column of the dataset changes it forces out a page break. Does this complicate matters any?

No, you can manually insert pagebreaks and use your own counters to put the correct amount of "groups" of detail lines on a page. Then you can reset your counter variables in the onPageBreak script, so that if a page break happens because of the first column changing, that the next page will have a full set of lines on it. Take a look at the following devShare post. It'll help give you an idea of how to get started with this. Let me know if you have questions.<br />
