The link above does exactly what i need it to do, limits each grouping to only the top ten rows, but I have a huge amount of data that I am working with and I am running into performance issues. My understanding of how the method above works is that it still has to load all of the data but it is just not visible in the report so it seems this may not work for me. Anyone have any idea of another way to do this?
Thanks for any help!

Hi juan436585,

The following link shows different ways to query for the top n with different types of SQL databases. If you're able to do one of these, you could do a where clause that also limits the selection to a certain value of a field with a dataSet parameter. In your report, you could have another query that calls only distinct values from this field, put the table corresponding to this query in your report, then have a table tied to the top n query embedded in that table. You could then go to the binding tab in the property editor of the inner table and use the dataSet parameter binding button to set the value of the dataSet parameter to the outer table value. Then you'd have unique queries for each group selecting the top N records. Hope this helps.
