first report generation takes a lot of time
alexAf
Hello,
I am using BIRT 2.5.1 under Tomcat.
The problem is that after restart of the tomcat it takes huge amount of time to generate first birt report. All others are generated quite quickly.
Is it possible to tweak the birt engine or tomcat so that birt engine would be initialized right after the startup of the tomcat and not on the first report generation? Or may be there are some other ways of reaching this goal?
Thank you!

Hi AlexAf,
i would assume that this is because the first time the engine has to be initialized.
Once initialized its just consuming time for generating the reports.

Yes, I have the same opinion. But do you know how to tweak the birt engine or tomcat so that birt engine would be initialized right after the startup of the tomcat and not on the first report generation?

Not off the top of my head. The report engine has to load, and since it is an OSGi app being wrapped, the Platform needs to load and the plugins will load on first report execution. My only suggestion would be to maybe run a dummy report in your init() method for your servlet, or if your using the BIRT viewer, script something to run a test report just to get those plugins started.

Ok, thank you!
So far it seems like the only possible solution.
