Use OpenAPI to Get Latest without overwrite?

I know I can use IWFileBatch.update() to perform the functionality of "iwupdate -x". But how can I update the workarea without overwriting files that is a newer version than the file in the staging area?

In the OpenAPI release in Teamsite 5.5.2 SP2, there is an overloaded method - IWFileBatch.update that has an extra parameter for the overwrite flag. Prior to that release, this feature is not available.
