Class loading problem with BIRT integration
elbeau
I have a web application that is integrated with the BIRT reporting engine. Everything seems to work fine unless you add a chart to a report. This problem has been hit by other people and is happening because my web application uses a different xerces parser than the one that shipped with BIRT. The class loader uses the other xerces parser when a report runs, which throws off the charting component.
Upgrading the xerces parser for the other component in my web app is not an option for me. What I need to do is make the class loader load one xerces parser to service BIRT and another to service the other component.
I created a class loader to reference the right one and added it via:
_birtEngine.getConfig().getAppContext().put(EngineConstants.APPCONTEXT_CLASSLOADER_KEY, new BIRTClassLoader(urls, Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader()));
...but that doesn't help. BIRT never even tries to use that class loader. Apparently the APPCONTEXT_CLASSLOADER_KEY is only used to resolve scripting resources, etc.. It is not used by the engine for XML parsing.
Is there another way to set BIRT's class loader?
Thanks.

When creating this classloader can you try to use it directly to load the class instead of setting the key?
