BIRT Excel Output - Tribix
olavtar
Hi experts,
I know that BIRT Excel emitter creates a Microsoft Office XML XLS document that can be opened in Microsoft Office 2003 or greater. If I'll use Tribix emitter, which will take care of couple of issues that out of the box birt exporting does not, will it work with Excel 2000 and 2002? or it will also require 2003 or greater version of Excel?
Thank you,
Sincerely,
Olga Lavtar

Hi Olga,
I've implemented a couple different versions of the Tribix emitter. In both cases, I've only tested it against Excel 2003 and 2007, but am aware that it is also compatible with 2000. In fact you will have many variables at your disposal to control things like: remove_empty_row, show_grid_lines, page_range, fixed_column_width, export_body_only, export_single_page... and maybe a few more.
The Tribix Wiki is a good resource for how to implement and use it, in basic terms. You will also need to tweak things like cell padding and master page size to get the best output to Excel.
Here is the link to the Tribix Wiki:

Thank you very much. Sounds like it will take care of Excel 2000, I'll give it a try.

Hi,
Are there other alternatives to using Tribix? Are they free?

Hi RJ,
The Tribix emitters are free to use. They are a sourceforge project. You can access them through this site in the devShare by searching for Tribix.
