Formatting date column dynamically

Hi, I have report with several date columns in different data sets, I need to find a way to apply a date pattern to all the date columns in all the data sets, but the date pattern is received as a report parameter.

The idea is to do it in a data set event or something a little bit general, and not to do it by each data field placed in the report.
Could some one help me with this problem and give and idea of how to do make it possible.

Do you mean you want to format all date fields with one statement, so that you don't need to know what fields are date fields? You just want all date fields to change based on a "format statement"? Or are you just wanting to add a small format script to all date fields that are in the report that will change the format based on a parameter? Let me know. Also, what is your BIRT version?
