create thumbnail and fullsize charts in one run

I can create thumbnail and full size versions of my chart as separate reports, run/render them separately and display/hide them independently via js on the page. But, I'm investigating what it will take to combine them together in the same report and control which one is displayed via js. This would save having to gather the data twice since they share the same dataset. Since the HTMLEmitter doesn't output any usable ids or class names on the container divs, table rows, etc...there's nothing much to grab onto that I can see. Is there anything useful I'm missing?
