Hi,
Can we reuse the birt templates for existing report design?
Sam.

Hi Sam,
You can create report templates for common setups of report designs that you can choose when beginning a new report design. You can also create libraries and store common items in your library that you use in many different reports, i.e. dataSources, labels, Company headers, etc. Hopefully this answers your question. If not, let me know.

Sam,
You could create a generic component in the library and bring it into your report design. From there, you can modify it how you'd like, it just won't refresh when you make changes to the element in the library because it's been modified. Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you're trying to do.

Hi Sam,
You might be running into the second rule of the library usage; "Report item structure cannot be changed." If you want a table in a grid, you should design the table into the grid item, then your users can override the table properties(again be mindful that the structure of the table can not be changed, except within the library design).
I usually create a scripted data source and add this to the library, this way you add the entire library design to the template and it will not have those pesky red 'X's.
Hope this helps,
Ralph G.
