Hiding dupicates
samruna
Hi,
I am working on a report where I need to hide duplicates for certain rows and do not hide for certain rows.
Please attached for sample format.
So in this example, Col1 and Col2 values are duplicate but they are only hidden when Col4 has multiple sub-entries.
The hide element property works at column level.
Any pointers?
Thanks

what's the rule of merging rows?
if col1 and col2 have the same value, but col3 doesn't, will you want the col1 and col2 merged?
Maybe you can try to change the SQL and use GROUP BY option, and the col4, you can use sub-table.

Sounds like you need a combination of groups and visibility expressions. Normally you could just choose Suppress Duplicates, but since you have some sort of logic behind it, using a Visibility expression is the way to go.

hi..there is no merging..all columns should be shown independently...

yes thats what i was thinking..how do add visibility expression for a group?
johnw
For your purposes, you would add an aggregation on your 4th column, and set the aggregation level to the group. Once you add the aggregation, it becomes a binding on your table, so you can reference it in your visibility expression. So you would do something like "(COUNT_AGGR > 1)", or something to that effect, as your visibility expression, where COUNT_AGGR is the name you gave to your aggregation.
Keep in mind, you wouldn't be adding the visibility expression to the entire column, but to the data elements in those columns. That should only display the first value, and not the rest. Same as using suppress duplicates, but using logic.

Hi, thanks for your suggestions. I tried this alternative already. But when adding the visibility expression, it hides the value for every occurance..so from my example above if Col4 value =7777, then hide rest of the details..not for every row.

When i use expressions grp_count > 1, it hides the data for every row..and not specific rows.
johnw
try using RUNNINGCOUNT as the aggregation instead of COUNT. With COUNT, you will get the total and it will display for every row as the same value, with RUNNINGCOUNT, it should be the equivalent to using rownum, except it will reset for every group.
