Hello BIRT community,

I m new in BIRT.
I have tested some implementation programmatical (the tutorial from eclipse wiki: http://wiki.eclipse.org/Examples_(BIRT)).
And also tested as rpc plug-ins. ( http://www.vogella.de/articles/EclipseBIRT/article.html )
The test data were from the sample db and formated as table.

But I want to know about the output of charts and images:

Can you use you own created chart format (create own diagramm from the incoming data) with BIRT?
Is something like that possible?

And what about charts or images that are larger than one page.
Are they handled well? Will they be cut at meaningful place?
Can this be defined or manipulated by the autor of the report?

If you have the knowhow, you could always create a new chart type and add it. I'm not sure if you'll be able to just add a new chart type as a plugin or if you'll have to download the source code and write the new code in there.

Another Question.

I have report as array of SVG images or combination of SVG images and tables. One of the SVG image is representing a chart that is larger than one page. Can this image be shown on two or more pages. Can I decide where the pagebreak should cut the SVG image?

I don't have an example or links, but I'll look into it for you. As far as the array of images, I have not encountered this issue. Are you using image elements to display the images? Are you needing a break within an image or is it between different images that you're piecing together? Can you show a screenshot?

at the beginning I didn't knew that our own charts were rendered as SVG images with java 2D.
Thats why I asked about creating new chart formats.

All I need to know is how can I calculate the page break and use this information to break my image into 2 or many pieces so I can place them on 2 or many pages.

The page break would be based on the size of your page. If you have images that you're bringing into BIRT that you need to break into pieces to spread across multiple pages, you'll just have to calculate the the image size vs page size. If I'm misunderstanding, let me know!

I hope BIRT has some function that gives the page size back.

The chart that I mentioned some posts before is deprecated and would not be used any more.

That's why I need the information about creating own report items because what we need is some combination of cross table and chart.

I can imagine that most of the BIRT users use the common report items for their reports.
In our case we need something special.

Crosstabs have a "show as chart" feature if that helps you out any. I'll find the function that returns the page size and post it in here.
