Getting a realtime thumbnail

Hi Birt Community, 
 
i'm working on a software concept for one of our customers. One of the requests is to show thumbnails of birt reports. But real thumbnails showing the actual result. 
 
After a lot of researching, i can't find any solution. There was a moment where i thought i found something like an FO Emitter with which to produce a thumbnail would't be a problem. But in the latest releases i can't find this emitter anymore

So i decided to not change birt or to write an emitter, because this would take to long. I decided to use one the existing outputs, i choosed PDF and found the apache PDFBox which i can use to get an image from a PDF-Page.

My question to u Birt community is. 
 
Is there a better way? Or did u think this is an useable way?

I have seen a few others implement similar approaches and apart from writting an emitter I like this approach. I wish the blog had an english translation. Would be good if you could put in a dev share item named BIRT Report Thumbnails.

I was thinking about to write my blog in english, but then i thought there is so much stuff in english and a lot of german developers which are not that familar with the english language. So i decided to write in german, its also faster for me to write

What did u mean with dev share item? Can i do this here on the page?
