BIRT xls emitter Excel 2010 Issue
BarryMcM
Hi,
I may be covering old ground here, so apologies for causing any repetition.
Basically, we have developed a Java/struts web-based GUI which renders BIRT reports in html.
We also provide links on these html pages to open a separate browser window to render the report in pdf and in Excel format. This has been working very well up until now.
The problem is, we are migrating our users from Office 2003 to Office 2010 and this has led to issues with the BIRT xls emitter. With Office 2003, the reports opened nicely in a new Internet Explorer window in Excel format. With Office 2010 this IE window is now just a blank, and the system insists on opening the report in the Excel 2010 application rather than inside the browser window. The following warning is also displayed:-
'The file you are trying to open, 'name.ext', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?'
..though I understand this is by design with Office 2007 onwards.
My question is, with Office 2010 have we lost the ability to embed Excel format reports in IE with BIRT, or do we have a workaround?
I'm using BIRT rumtine 2.3.1 :-
Sample code:-
response.setContentType("application/vnd.ms-excel");
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=" + reportName + ".xls"); // inline, attachment
options = new EXCELRenderOption();
options.setOutputFormat("xls");
}
options.setOutputStream(response.getOutputStream());
task.setRenderOption(options);
Again, if I've missed something extremely obvious then apologies.
Any pointer in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if there is a solution, is it backwards-compatible to suit both the Office 2003 and 2010 users?
Thanks,
-Barry
