Dataset Usage

Hi,

Basically, we have a report with huge data and many datasets.I would like to reduce the number of datasets in the report and need clarification on the below scenario.

The report contains 1) Report Parameter 2)Data Grid 3) Lot of Other Tables

Example: We display Price of Order Item in a Grid on selection of Order Number (which is a report parameter)

Can I use the same dataset and append the 'OrderNumber' criteria for the 'Data Grid' report item
in the onRender() function or something.. and clear the query and reuse the same dataset on click
of report parameter dialog box..
Attached is the sample report design file (Assume each ordernumber contains only 1 product item and has single price value).Please clarify

I am not 100% on what you are asking, but you definately can tie the report parameter to a dataset parameter.

Thanks for the reply.In the rptdesign file that you attached, we have 2 datasets as follows:

ordernumberparam

select ordernumber
from orders

ORDER DETAILS

select *
from orderdetails
where ordernumber = ?

I would like to reduce the number of datasets from 2 to 1(Lets assume both datasets interact with a single table - orderdetails).So,we have a single dataset with the query

select *
from orderdetails (for parameter - we can select the desired column as display text in the 'Edit Parameter' dialog box)

And we need to change the same dataset query dynamically when we preview the report as

select *
from orderdetails
where ordernumber = ?

Again, when we click 'Show Report Parameters' the query should be changed back to the original one..(select * from orderdetails)

Could you kindly clarify if it's possible.

I do not know of an easy way to do this without a good amount of scripting.
