Can we use BIRT as monitoring for our product

Hi,

I am new to BIRT and came to this site through random search. However, i found it very good reporting technology with all the features.
We have our own security product and provide configuration and monitoring of our product through Java-Swing application. Our monitoring is very basic and is limited to showing the alerts in tabular form. We are looking to enhance our monitoring by providing filtering of data, drill down features to the alerts, providing dashboard, providing drill down by clicking on the graphs etc. We are actively looking for third party products\libraries providing these features.
Is this possible by BIRT? Can we create dashboards, charts, graphs etc using BIRT and integrate with our monitoring UI?
Our data is in the Java-objects.

Hi Charanjeet,

Yes, BIRT can do those things. BIRT is made up of API's and is java based, so you should be able to integrate it into your application. There is also a sample viewer that can be deployed separately that you can call to display reports using a URL.

Yes. In fact some of the members of the SGUIL project have used BIRT in this way.

You can integrate different aspects of BIRT in different ways to acheieve what you are looking for. If your doing real time dashboards, take a look at the chart programming examples in the BIRT source package, it shows how to do real time charts. BIRT was designed to do the drill downs from charts and other UI components you are requesting.
