Load Testing TeamSite
dharrels
Has anyone load tested their TeamSite installation? If so, how and what recommendations can people offer? Are you load testing by literally putting 30 users online and having them walk through scripted actions?
Anyone used a testing application, specifically Apache JMeter, to load test? If you have used a application, how do you setup user authentication to load pages and such?

I've worked at a company that did try to do load testing on TeamSite. Their attempts to automate the load testing failed miserably (wasted about 1 month trying to get it to work), but Interwoven has successfully done some load testing using (I believe) LoadRunner. The guy at Interwoven who was responsible for the load testing and would be the best source of information is Jeff Marinchek (sp?). If you attended GearUp last year, there are some PowerPoint presentations describing some of the performance testing that they did.

I think most of their load testing must be about back-end stuff, like how long does it take to submit a workarea with x number of files in it, not front-end stuff. Because I don't think the front-end stuff is getting any better, but the back-end definitely has. Of course that doesn't really help me with the bugs that make things I need to do not work at all.

I think you are right, it sure seems like most of the tests that Interwoven runs are on the backend, placing scripts on the server that simulate users and tasks. Like you laid out, it's pretty easy to script iwsubmit to run 50 times and track how long it takes. My task though is to show that our installation of TeamSite will beat the pants off of this homegrown app that takes literally 8-17 seconds to load a page for the user. I need to show that just browsing a site is super-fast, which I know it is.
