How to Sum row column decimal value to a global variable

Hello,

I'm new in report design (more experience in integrating and extending birt) so probably my question is a little bit naive. But still can't find an answer anywhere ...
I am building a report design where I need to have totals by page, for that I was following the tips in the following post

The problem is that this uses Integer type and my data set column is decimal data type.

What should I use in the script instead of Integer?

importPackage( Packages.java.lang );
transport = transport + Integer.parseInt(this.getRowData().getColumnValue("GCLILI"));

(GCLILI is decimal)

I also need to have cumulative sum so agreggation does not solve my problem (i think), eg,

Total Page 1 = SUM(GCLILI) Pag1
Total Page 2 = Total Page 1 + SUM(GCLILI) Pag2
.....

If you're using a decimal value, you should be able to do parseFloat rather than parseInt. What is your BIRT version? If using 2.5 or 2.6, you might be able to utilize page variables to do your page totals and to keep track of your cumulative sum.

Thank you for your answer. I am using Birt 2.3.2. I've managed a workaround, creating a binding with the expression parseFloat(row["transportvalue"]) + parseFloat(transport) where transportvalue is the aggregation group sum of the column GCLILI and transport is assigned transport value on group onCreate event.

This solves my problem having the group based on number of records per page, which I don't want because I can have several, depending on line height. I am considering now upgrading my application to 2.6 and use those new events you refered to because I really need to have calculation based on pages and not in number of records which I never know what will be.

I've just upgraded to 2.6.1 . I have a doubt regarding page variable, it can only be displayed in master page? I've placed it in Layout and is never shown... I need to have it in table's header which has to be in layout. If this is not possible, how can I get its value in another report item?

So you want to keep a total per page and a running total in the header of your table, but you have a variable line height and a fixed page size?

Hello,

I don't have a fixed line height, depending on description length I can have 8 rows in first page and 10 in the second. I do have fixed page size. In attachment you have the representation of what I am talking about, this one is the one made with birt 2.3.2 but assuming 10 lines per page, which i have to avoid and which i thought it would be solved with page variables and page events.

The values in cause are To Transport and Transported where To Transport and Transported are the sum of the values already listed.

It looks like you have a fixed line height in the PDF that is attached, but I'll assume that with other data, the line height will not be the same in all rows. I'll see what I can do without fixing the amount of lines per page and attach an example if I come up with something that works using page variables.

Actually, take a look at this example from the devShare. Let me know if it helps you out. If not, I'll work on an example.

Thank you, but this is the example I've tried to follow and came to the conclusion that Page Variables are only displayed in master page. Is this right? In the comment thread you can see my question about this issue:

If I'm remembering correctly, changes were made in the most recent versions to allow for page variables to be used in the design. I could be wrong on this, though.

I don't know that you'll be able to use anything but the masterpage header and footer though if you want to put a total at the top and bottom of each page, unless you use an interval grouping.
