Java source in Teamsite

There is a section in

Interwoven Best Practices
BEA Turbo Strategies
Version 1.3

that says that Java developers should develop their code outside of Teamsite and import it for virtualisation (page three section two). Is anyone using Teamsite for Java development? If not what do people use. I would have thought that there should be a recomendation from Interwoven about this.

I think there is a whitepaper somewhere in the support site about developing code with TeamSite and Interwoven products (like TeamCode).

In general, you don't want Java developers developing .java files on your TeamSite box because they're going to be constantly compiling whole directories of code and in general bogging the system down. If that's the only raison d'etre for your TS server, fine. But if you're hosting html and jsp stuff on your server, you're going to have serious performance problems before too long. Besides, if you're in the 21st century, there is presumably some app server hosting all your Java goodies-- you shouldn't have app server installed on the same machine as your TeamSite server because it'll "wed" that TeamSite installation to that app server vendor.***

Speaking of JSPs, I know they get compiled at run-time as well, but I make a philosophical distinction between them because they don't usually go through the same kind of release process as do beans/servlets/whatever. It would be too painful to go through a whole release song-and-dance just to see if your little JSP presentation tweak looks ok.

1) Yes, I know TeamSite already ships with an app server
2) I mean that if you are controlling some content for site X, and you slap a full blown Weblogic 7 installation with Tuxedo and who-knows-what-else on your IW box, you're going to get very confused if you need to start controlling content for site Y (that doesn't use Weblogic) on that same TeamSite installation. This is more of a problem for large companies, one of which being my current employer
