Problem Installation Tribix XLS emitters

I wish you an happy new year

I try to install the Tribix XLS emitter beacause I have to generate XLS for Excel 2000.

My configuration :

- Birt : 2.6.1
- Tribix : 2.5.1 : org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050.jar
- Run on a web server ( OAS )
- To generate my report i call the '/run' servlet
- Using scripted DataSource and I have a reportHandler

I tried to decompress the .jar into : WEB-INF/platform/plugins/ and i removed the org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.excel*

But my report is still generated with the wrong emitterId and is incompatible with Excel 2000.
Have I forgot a step in my installation ?

Do you still have the option to export to XLS? Or is that gone? Is the above the exact steps and order in which you did what you did?

To export to XLS i use the parameter "__format=xls" when i call my servlet run. for example : "http://127.0.0.1:8888/run?__report=report\ReportTestBirt.rptdesign&__format=xls".

Have i something to add in my .rptDesign ?

You decompress the Tribix XLS .jar, or do you just put the .jar in the plugins folder.

I have the same problem. In my case, the option to export to XLS format is gone! 
 
I've copied the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050.jar and the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.common_1.1.0.200907171402folder into the plugins directory and also deleted the eclipse xls emmiters (cofig and prototype). 
 
Birt 2.6.2 
I'm using the webapp example that comes with the Birt run-time (i'm actually beggining to use BIRT (= and I need XLS image support) 
Runing it from Tomcat 5.5 like this -> http://localhost:8080/viewer/frameset? 
 
What should I do?

If you put the original emitter files back, do you get the standard XLS output back? Or have you gotten into some sort of a glitch that's not recognizing either? Let me know.

I tried to delete the tribix files and then copy back the original ones but the option was still gone.
Yet, after rebooting Tomcat, the option to export to XLS re-appeared and works fine (wiht the original files)

When you replaced them, did you restart Tomcat?

I did restart Tomcat after copying the tribix emitters, still didn't work. 
 
[EDIT] 
I've decompressed the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050.jar (deleting the original emitters also)and now it does give me the option to export in XLS format... But it does not work. 
 
It opens Excel but without any report whatsoever, instead, it writes an error.

The Read me file inside the .jar said birt 2.5 was ssupported and any further version may also work but it was not guaranteed. Is this the problem? 
 
IT recomended to have PIO and JXL librariess which I downloaded and place them in the plugins directory. Still the same error.

It very well could be. I have not tried installing in 2.6.2. You might try downloading a 2.5 version and seeing if doing it the way you did it works in that version, then we'll know for sure it's a version thing!

I have downloaded the 2.5.1 version of BIRT run-time, tried the same, and the resulting excel file gives me the same error as before, so it's not the version I belive.

I also tried with no positive result:

1.- extracting the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050.jar
2.- compressing the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.common_1.1.0.200907171402 folder in .zip format and then changing it to .jar (the option to export to XLS was missing)
3.- having all the emitters (tribix and originals)
4.- With each test, I downloaded a new file to prevent using a damaged one (just in case)

I'm using office 2003 by the way.

What is the error it's giving you, btw?

Have you gotten the Tribix emitter to work from within the designer?

tried to do that with both 2.5.1 and 2.6.2 versions of the designer(copying the files to each plugin directories). still the same error text in the excel file.

Have you tried installing the emitter using the install/update feature from within the Eclipse IDE? According to the .txt file available with the Tribix downloads, you can use this update URL:

http://tribix.sourceforge.net/update

Also from the .txt file, it says that for PPT and XLS, you need to extract them as folders to use with the runtime, maybe this is the issue.

I manage to finally make it work... sort of.

The solution was to download an earlier version of the tribix emitters (2.5.0 instead of the 2.5.1) and use it with the 2.5.1 version of Birt run time with Tomcat 5.5.

I tried the update feature from the eclipse IDE but it didn't work either.

Anyway, thank you so much for you concern and help troughout my desesperation with this issue, Michael!

Ok. I am going to install the 2.5.1 version into 2.5.1 and see if I have the same issue and let you know.

I switched out the emitters in 2.5.1 and I was able to see the report as expected with the 2.5.1 Tribix emitter. I exported a report that had a chart so I'd know that the Tribix emitter was the one being used. I am using Office 2007 though, so that may have something to do with it.

I tried once more to use the 2.5.1 Tribix emitters with BIRT 2.6.2 ( run-time, designer and within eclipse helios IDE)and it worked. Here's how I made it work for anyone having the same problem: 
 
1.- From <a class='bbc_url' href='http://sourceforge.net/projects/tribix/files/2.5.1/'>HERE</a> download and extract org.uguess.birt.report.engine.emitter.xls_2.5.1.201001221050.jar to the plugin directory of BIRT 
 
2.- Also from there, download the org.uguess.birt.report.engine.common_1.1.1.201001221050.jar and place it in the same folder. (do not extract this one) 
 
3.- Delete the birt xls emitters: org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.excel.config_2.6.2.r262_v20110127.jar and org.eclipse.birt.report.engine.emitter.prototype.excel_2.6.2.r262_v20110215.jar 
 
4.- It should work now, that simple. 
 
My problem was using the wrong .engine.common_xx.jar
