Suppress Duplicates and page break
mcremer
Goodday,
I love the supress Duplicates on a Table (or crosstab). However to keep readabilety it would be nice to be able to tell the suppress Duplicates that it would show a value if it has had a page break. So that the new page had all the info needed on that page and the end user has not to turn a page back (in web viewer its not a big issu but in printed version turning a page back to see in what year you are can be a problem)

You could use grouping instead as one option. Then, there would be a group header that would repeat at the top of each page of the group. You could put the repeated information in this row.
-OR-
You could create your own "suppress duplicates" using visibility. You could then reset a variable in onPageBreak so you know when you hit a new page and show the value for one row and then set your "show" variable back to the value in which you won't show the field value.
Hope this helps.

I'd like to to try to do my own column suppression as you mentioned above could you give me some help on how to go about doing this or point me in the direction?

What is your BIRT version? I'll make an example that shows both ways.

Eclipse BIRT Designer Version 2.3.0.v20080606 Build <2.3.0.v20080618-0630>
Thanks

In 2.3.0, there must've been a bug with onPageBreak not being called or something because my variable that tells me to show the first value in each page, doesn't seem to work correctly. However, the grouping with "drop" set to "detail" seems to do what you're wanting. A newer version should work with the visibility option too, but that won't help you unless you upgrade.
Hope this helps.

Hello,
When I used the very first method "Suppress Duplicates" in the above report and view the report in PDF,
the first value is not visible when a page break occurs. Whereas in web viewer it is working fine.
Can you please suggest me a solution for this.
Thanks..

This is probably a runAndRender task vs separate run and render tasks issue. Try running the report in the web viewer, then exporting to PDF. Or, if you're using the external browser option, from the designer, to display the reports, when you run to pdf, simply change the url from run/preview to frameset.

I was doing the same thing. Run report in web viewer and then exported to PDF.

What version of BIRT are you using?

Currently I am using :

Actuate BIRT Designer Professional
Version: 11.0.3
Build id: 20111028

I have tried in another version too :

Actuate BIRT Designer Professional
Version: 11.0.4
Build id: 20120420

In both the above versions I was getting the same result.

Please find the attached pdf output of the above report.

Try the use grouping and drop option and set the page break interval on the table to 0, so you don't have the funny page break.
