OpenDeploy dies after iPlanet upgrade
rwinterpacht
We have TeamSite 5.0.1 and OpenDeploy 5.5.1 installed on Solaris8. We recently upgrade our web server to iPlanet 6, and ever since, the OpenDeploy service dies for no apparent reason (no large deployments, number of deployments, etc.) Anyone have a similar problem?
Here's the log file entry:
OpenDeploy server host: localhost, RMI registry port: 9173
***ERROR - Connection could not be established to 'IWDeployService'
S80iwod:20030702:1501: Starting iwdeploy server
OD HOME is: /opt/OpenDeployNG
RMI registry port: 9173
Thanks,
Raf Winterpacht

Can you provide your system configuration? Specially the following:
- uname -a
- showrev -a
rwinterpacht
uname returns the following:
SunOS briw1 5.8 Generic_108528-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-80
nipper
can you see if anything is sitting on OD's ports ? netstat -a can help there

Here's netstat info related to OD ports...we use the defaults: 20014 and 9173:
briw1.22 ecst9.1018 24820 0 24820 0 ESTABLISHED
briw1.22 192.168.48.36.1019 24820 0 24820 0 ESTABLISHED
*.9173 *.* 0 0 24576 0 LISTEN
*.61647 *.* 0 0 24576 0 LISTEN
*.* *.* 0 0 24576 0 IDLE
briw1.20014 *.* 0 0 24576 0 LISTEN

Can you try the following:
-shutdown OD
- shutdown iplanet app server.
- start OD
At each step, look at the output of nestat -a and check for port conflicts.
- After iplanet upgrade, are you seeing any new environment variables especially CLASSPATH, PATH
For OD, we should be using the JRE shipped with OD. After the iplanet upgrade something changed in the environment which is forcing OD to core dump.

We haven't checked for port conflicts yet, but have started the OD process with the nohup option, since we've had to do the same for iwreset. So far, it's still up and running, so we're crossing our fingers!
Thanks for all the help,
Raf
