Parameter entry pages
ajunuthula
Hi everyone,
We are in the process of building an application here at Rockefeller,NY.
In the information console form, there is a combo box with two options A & B (Assume A & B as two different databases). SO when a user selects database A and clicks finish, he/she should be forwarded to another information console form where he/she can enter the input regarding to that particular data and the same should work when the database B is selected.
I am new to Birt,so wondering how to achieve this functionality.
Any suggestions or any examples will be of great help.
Thank you.

Hi ajunuthula,
What input would they be putting in? Are you essentially wanting to give the user an option of what data they want to look at? Then from there give them a list of parameters they need to choose from? If so, you should just be able to create 2 separate reports with one database in one report and one database in another report, then they'd just have different parameter pages based on the parameters you set up in your report. Let me know if this isn't what you're asking.

Hi,
Yes, you got it right. If the user selects parameter "a", then he should be guided to the next page where he can enter other parameters, then finally he have to see the report.
So, I am confused as to how to do this. Enter parameters, then go to the next page and enter some other parameters and finally view the report.
Thank you.

Hi,
Can you please post some example?
We need to demonstrate this early next week.
Thank you.

I would think you could just have a jsp or html page with 2 links, one to each report. You automatically, then, get a parameter page with each report design if you have report parameters defined. This would take care of needing to select other options to select what data comes into the report. Then, it'd just be a matter of using those parameters to dynamically define your table columns.

Hi,
I am not quite sure how to generate a html page with 2 links, one to each report.
Can you please help with an example?
Thank you.

Are you going to be running this from another application? If so, you could link to both reports just from wherever you're planning on linking to this from. Just making a URL for calling the two different reports from wherever you were going to be calling them from in the first place. Otherwise, you should be able to easily use google or something to find info on creating a simple html or jsp page with two links on it. Let me know if this isn't helpful.

No, I will be doing this on the same application. Is it possible to create two parameter forms and a link between them?
Thank you.

Each parameter page would belong to a specific report design. Why would you want to link the parameter pages of two different reports?
