Report Internationalization based on DB instead of resource bundle fiels
benmx
Hi *,
has anybody seen an approach to use message translation in reports based on DB instead of packaged property files?
Any help/ideas appreciated!
All the best,
Ben

Hi Ben,
How do you determine from your DB what the locale would be? A DB field?
benmx
Either the locale or rather an extra report parameter.
I need to implement a rather complex behaviour for finding the correct translation for a resource key referenced in the report.
Is it feasible to extend BIRT to make it use a different message resolution implementation based on my DB?

It seems that this example from the devShare uses property files as well, but it does use a parameter to dynamically set the locale. Not sure if it will help you or not:

If this won't help at all, will you describe in more detail about what you will grab from your database an how you'll determine what locale to use for the report. Thanks!

Hi Michael,

thanks for the quick responses and the provided example with the locale parameters. Unfortunately it does not really cover my problem:

My translation are stored in the db, in a table like
key | translation | param1 | param2 | lang

Now I would like to allow the report designer to simply define text fields with the key for the translation. This should be used together the currently used parameterset param1/param2/lang (from another Dataset or even report parameters) to retrieve the translation from the db.

Thanks again for your support!
