i'm using Birt Report Designer 2.6.1 and I'm experiencing this issue. I've got a dynamic data set based on this query with place holder "?": 
 
[sql] SELECT ?, SUM(CLRED740), SUM(RV1), SUM(RV2_C2), SUM(RV10_C2), 
SUM(NCONTR), SUM(FRV1), SUM(FRV2_C2), SUM(FRV10_C2) 
FROM SCHEMA.MYTAB 
WHERE ? = ? 
GROUP BY ? [/sql] 
 
I've got 4 input parameters defined as Strings with respectively names: selCol (default value: params["CLASSEVAR"].value where CLASSEVAR is a cascade report input parameter), whereCol (default value: 1), whereVal (default value: 1), groupCol (default value: params["CLASSEVAR"].value where CLASSEVAR is a cascade report input parameter). 
 
On the beforeOpen event I attached this script to instantiate place holders dynamically:

Please ignore logToDebugWindow function call; it's a js script resource that opens a JFrame Java window to print some debug information locally. All the params are defined inside the report. 
I can't understand why, after setting input parameters with setInputParameterValue function, last line show me the query text with no params instantiated. Infact logToDebugWindow("QUERY SQL: " + this.queryText); shows the query with "?" in their original position even if input parameters are correctly setted with non null values. 
Should I call some other functions in this event or inside other events to have the query instantiated before fetching event?

P.S. Btw, I can't use breakpoints in the report designer on the beforeOpen event. All other events breaks correctly. Maybe it's a 2.6.1 bug

So, is your report running correctly, you're just getting the '?' in the query when you're trying to log or display it?

Right. At the moment I've fixed the issue using methods from String class (like replace, replaceAll etc.) on the queryText variable. Doing so produce the right query but I'm not satisfied with this choice. Let me know if you have ideas about this issue.

hi, I have the same issue and I don't want to alter the queryText variable. I am wondering why using [color=rgb(0,0,136);]this[/color][color=rgb(102,102,0);].[/color]setInputParameterValue[color=rgb(102,102,0);](....) method in beforeOpen is not working.[/color]

hi, Thanks for getting back. I have attached a sample rptdesign file here. Based on the parameter value selected (monthly/weekly) i am trying to compute the start and end dates of the month/week and set the parameter value in the beforeOpen method of the dataset. When I run the report based on the sampledb it doesn't show any data because the order dates in the sample are not in the current month/week. I don't know how to alter the data in the sampledb so that i can simulate it exactly the way my actual report that goes after a postgres database. But it may give you an idea of how my code looks like and if I have made any mistakes in it. Thanks again. - J
