Upgrading BIRT from 2.2.0 to 2.6.1
yellap78
All,
We currently use BIRT 2.2.0 version to render some of our reports. We integrated the BIRT runtime component into our Java based web application.
Now planning to upgrade to 2.6.1 version, interested to know find what are the typical steps that need to be followed with respective configuration, execution and design files upgrade.
It would be great help if you can provide a upgrade guidelines.
Thanks,
YA

Hi yellap78,

I was involved in migration from 2.5.1 to 2.6 a couple of months back. I didn't face any specific problems doing so. However a few TODO would be:

1) Add the new jars in the runtime and set the classpath to point to these jars.
2) Change the HOME location appropriately pointing to the new reportEngine.
3) Some font sizing issues might come up. Refer the article http://meghanidhi.blogspot.com/2010/12/birting-all-way.html.
4) Open the older design files in the new BIRT designer and save it, it should upgrade the designers to the latest version. Try previewing the results if you want to be 100% sure as lists without binding throws errors in later versions. If lists are being used as data/pallete holders and is throwing error like it should be bind to some dataSet, you can switch to grid as pallete holder/container.

Note: the above observations are specific to eclipse project with java as backend. However, it should be applicable in other perspectives also.

after these steps, all should go well.
