Using TS in VPN

We have a pretty strict system and force our outside users to use vpn. Has anyone had experience using teamsite in a vpn?
I see that an exe tries to execute when trying to edit a file, also wants to install visualformatter on the clientside too.

IWOV uses TeamSite inside a VPN a lot. It works fine. I don't know of any major VF implementations though. l
